Towson Wins 5th Straight; Top of Conference

This weekend’s win over Penn State seems to have brought on much success for the Tigers. With the win the Tigers have clenched the number one seed in the conference tournament, as well as a number 11 ranking in the nation. The Tigers have now won five straight games with only two games remaining in the season. The Tigers take on their cross town rivals tonight, the Johns Hopkins Blue Jays at Homewood Field.

The Blue Jays are a struggling team desperate for a win. The Tigers have never defeated the Blue Jays under Tony Seaman, and have never beaten Johns Hopkins coach Dave Pietramala. If there were any year to beat the Blue Jays, this is the one. With the Blue Jays coming off an overtime loss to a Navy team that the Tigers beat by one goal for their first win of the season this year, all signs point to a win for the Tigers.

I must say that nine times out of 10 in this game I would pick Hopkins. However, the Tigers have truly made a believer out of me. I believe that the Tigers have the ability to keep this game close. And they have proven that they know how to win down the stretch in a close game. The Tigers are 6-2 in games decided by three goals or less, and have won all the games in this five game win streak by less then three goals.

The best thing the Tigers have going for them has to be the leadership they are getting from their captains, and seniors, especially at the midfield to pick the rest of the team up and be able to get these close wins. I am truly a believer now, as I said earlier, I think the Tigers will beat the Blue Jays for the first time under Tony Seaman at Homewood Field tonight by true Towson fashion, 10-8 Tigers.
